Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections 前置詞、接続詞、そして間投詞

Hello everyone, today in part three of this series on parts of speech in the English language. Let's take a look at the last three parts of speech: what they are and how they are used. Once again, for the sake of simplicity I've included the definitions for these parts of speech below. Finally, once again, I want to give you a few opportunities to test out your understanding of the materials being covered in the blog with some simple questions that you can try out for yourself. Enjoy.      みなさん、こんにちは。今日は品詞シリーズの第3です。今までの品詞を見ていきましょう: なんなのか、そして使い方。シンプルにするために、この三つの品詞の意味を下に書きました。そして最後に、自分の理解力を試すためにいくつかの質問を準備しました。

  • Prepositions- These are words that are placed before a noun or pronoun to modify another word in a sentence.

前置詞:名詞または代名詞の前にくる、文章にある言葉を修飾する言葉。

  • Conjunctions- A conjunction joins words or phrases.

接続詞:言葉やフレーズを接続する。

  • Interjections- These words are used to express an emotion.

間投詞:感情を表す言葉。

(2)When Susan was in the hallway, she heard what sounded like hundreds of breaking dishes and glasses come (1)from the kitchen. (3)"Oh man..." When she peeked (1)into the doorway her cat was (1)in the cupboard (2)and all her plates were (1)on the floor.

2. When - At or during the time of something. 何事の時間をさす the time

1. From - Indicating the point in space at which a journey, motion, or action starts.       旅、動きの始まりの視点

3. "Oh man..." - Something one might say to express disappointment or annoyance.      がっかりした時、イライラした時に言うフレーズ

1. Into - Indicating the direction toward which some one or something is turned when confronting something else.                                    何か、誰かと立ち向かう時に進んでいる方向

1. In - Expressing the situation of something that is or appears to been closed or surrounded by something else.                                   あるもの、人が何かに囲まれている状態

2. And - Used to connect words of the same part of speech, clauses, or sentences, that are to be taken jointly.                                   似ている品詞、節、文章のつなぐために使う言葉。

1. On - Physically in contact with and supported by (a surface).               ある物の上、触っている状態で支えている





So here is a sentence you can attempt to classify if you want to test out your understanding.   理解力を試したい方には、こちらをとうぞ。


"Why me?" ,said Peter when he was chosen to give a speech that was going to happen next week.

3. "Why me?" - An expression used when you cannot understand why you have been chosen to do something difficult or why something bad has happened to you.               なぜ難しい頼みごとがあったか、または困難な状況に入れられたのかが理解できない時に使うウレーズ。

1. Into - expressing movement or action with the result that some one or some thing makes physical contact with something else.                               何か、誰かと立ち向かう時に進んでいる方向

2. And - Used to connect words of the same part of speech, clauses, or sentences, that are to be taken jointly.                                        似ている品詞、節、文章のつなぐために使う言葉。

1. At - Expressing location or arrival in a particular place or position.             ある場所または位置にいることを表現する時
